Musbury and Local Area

Musbury is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Axe Valley and if you are seeking the best countryside and coastal scenery East Devon has to offer, the Axe Valley is the place to visit.

Musbury church is home to a unique 17th century tomb of the Drake family, and the nearby village of Whitford boasts a fine example of a Devon longhouse, besides being the perfect place to stop and have a picnic.

Musbury Castle is an Iron Age camp that looks out onto the beautiful river Axe. The area is not only a historical treat but there is much for the wildlife lover and keen birdwatchers alike. The hedgerows that extend down the East Devon Way hold whitethroats and yellowhammers. There are the Lower Bruckland fishing lakes that attract birds including little grebes and shelduck. This is a lovely site that gives great views of the surrounding countryside.

The river is a wildlife haven, and the perfect site for a picnic is Coronation Corner, where visitors can relax and take in the scenery.

There are lots of opportunities for walking, cycling, or simply taking it easy and having a picnic. There is plenty for all the family to enjoy, from a meal in a friendly pub to visiting places of historic interest or enjoying the wonderful countryside and abundance of wildlife
